Congratulations Peter Capaldi!

Loop 3 detail

Congratulations from GFT to Peter Capaldi on his new role as the 12th incarnation of The Doctor in Doctor Who!

Peter is one of Glasgow's finest acting talents. A former student at Glasgow School of Art, he got his big break in the much-loved Local Hero. More recently his best-known character has been the unforgettable and hilariously abrasive Press Adviser Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It and In The Loop.

Glasgow Film Festival hosted In The Loop as our Opening Night film in 2009, with much of cast and crew in attendance, including another talented local, writer Armando Iannucci.

Students from Stow College interviewed Peter in the GFT foyer. You can see the video here - beware there is some colourful language. Peter comes in around 4min 29 sec:

Peter has visited GFT many times with his mum to watch films and has attended premieres here. He said of our cinema "GFT occupies a warm place in the history of the city, not only as a romantic rendezvous, but as the place where generations of the city's artists, filmmakers, musicians, actors and writers (including myself) have been introduced to the magic of film in all its forms. It is a cultural oasis. An educational powerhouse. And a great night out. It belongs to Glasgow. And should always be there".

The GFT team is delighted for Peter and is excited to see him get his teeth sunk into this new role.
