Memories

Our first date was at the ‘pictures’ on 19 September 1965 to see Lucky Jim. We must have hit it off because we will be celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary at Easter.

    Tony Jaconelli

    Premier

Shettleston was well served with cinemas; we had four, The State, The Broadway (later the name was changed to the Odeon), The Palaceum and the Premier.

    Tommy Kinvig

    Pollok Picture House

One of my major movie memories was in the Pollok Cinema in Pollokshaws when King Kong (1933 version) was the big picture. What a thrill to see the monstrous monkey wreak havoc in New York.

  • 1950s-60s

    A. K. Mortimer

    The State

Seeing Stagecoach and Casablanca for the first time. One film I thought was super was Love is a Many Splendored Thing - Jennifer Jones and William Holden - my favourite actor!
