Black Cat Picture House
830 Springfield Road
The Black Cat is most famous as being used as TV studios from the 1950s – it was here that the Andy Stewart’s White Heather Club was often filmed! As a cinema, it was an old fashioned affair – as recorded by this London film journalist in 1931: ‘A tiny building. There is a black cat painted on the wall above the entrance. A solitary lamp over the doorway illuminates one word, "Pictures." In a miniature vestibule there was a box-office, but no list of prices. "How much?" I asked. The girl looked surprised. "Threepence," she said, "for any seat anywhere. You must be a stranger here."'
