Plans were well advanced for the huge, stunning Odeon Partick, at the corner of Keith Street and Dumbarton Road. Sadly the Second World War broke out, and it was never built! Odeon only ever built three cinemas in Scotland before the war – in Ayr, Motherwell and Hamilton. Plans for others, here, in Bridgeton and Dunbarton amongst others, all ground to a halt with the wartime ban on new buildings. Most of Odeon's other Scottish cinemas were aquired by buying up existing cinemas – the best example being the Odeon Renfield Street, which was originally a Paramount.
